Kelloggs Eggos

The news didn't bother me personally, but my family got really upset.

Kelloggs Eggos will be in limited suppy for the next year and a half.

Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday our family eats cereal and milk for breakfast.  On Saturdays, I make pancakes for everybody, which usually includes some of the kids' friends who have spend the night at our house.  On Sundays, I take the kids to Whataburger on the way to W@W.  .... but on Tuesdays and Thursdays....That's waffle and pop-tart day.  Eggos are a mainstay in our freezer.  I just have cereal (cause I'm a traditional guy!), but the kids love their Eggos.

So, this week when the AP announced that two of the four Eggos plants were going to be shut down and that our nation's suppy of Eggos was going to be decreased, my family got concerned.  It wasn't life shattering.  It wasn't serious.  It was enough to make my kids and wife care about the news.  .... and for me...it was comical.

The truth behind the story is that Kelloggs was already behind in production due to a concern over a certain bacteria, Listeria.  Then just as the factories were scheduled to be open again, heavy rain and flooding prevented the factories to getting back online.

Production is down.

Demand goes up.

We'll see what this does to the price.

Now, I want you to think about your own "production."  What happens when something unexpected comes your way and it shuts you down.  Maybe an emergency has caused you to get off track.  Maybe  a problem at work has caused you to shut down emotionally at home.  Maybe a fight with your spouse is causing you to close the doors on resolving some old problems.  Mabye a problem that starts as a small issue has grown into something bigger.

What happens when "production" goes down in your life?  You begin to isolate yourself from friends and families.  You close down emotionally and keep a distance from those who try to get to know you better.  You callous your feelings and try to "tough it out."

Suppy goes down.

Demand goes up.

...or at least that's the way if feels.

Sometimes, when we have the least to offer, the world asks the most of us.  When we feel like shutting down, our friends and family ask us to give more of ourselves to them.

Price goes up.

Jesus understood this.  When the world was ripe with sin, selfless love was at an all time low.  He offered us a way to live with the increased need for grace in spite of the decreased production of it.  He offered all he had.  He offered his life.  He offered all he had...

It was enough.

It might be hard to get some eggos over the next few months, but there will be enough.

It might be hard to give enough time to your family, to give enough your spouse enough quality conversation, to give enough of yourself to the world....but there will be enough... and not just on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

My prayer for you and for me is that we learn to give all that we can, especailly when production is down.
