BAND OF BROTHERS UPDATES
Band of Brothers Members,
I want to bring you up-to-date on the discussions and decisions that occurred at our first meeting of 2010. For those of you who came to see the video, we apologize for the length of the business meeting and we vow to do a better job of staying on schedule at future meetings. That being said, we accomplished a great deal during the business discussion and have some solid direction for the coming year.
Your BoB officers for 2010 are:
President - Chris Collins
Vice President - Rod Hurston
Treasurer - Kurt Overlade
Corresponding Secretary - Bill Dorsey
In addition, we identified several Committees that will assist the Officers in coordinating Band of Brothers activities in 2010 and solicited volunteers to chair them:
Fundraising Committee - Joe Damario
Event Committee - David Leslie
Business Advisory Committee - John Carruth and Scott Sallis
It was decided that we would continue to meet monthly and that we would continue to rotate the meetings between the Fairpoint and Soundside Campuses. The group expressed a preference for earlier meetings and we will start all future meetings at 6:00 pm to honor that request. We have also decided that we will provide food (on a RSVP basis) at future meetings at a nominal cost of $5.00 for those that want it.
We had a lengthy discussion about fundraisers and their purpose. We cleared approximately $400 with our BBQ fundraiser in December 2009 and should be able to clear between $900 - $1,000 on similar efforts in 2010. Since we receive no funding from the church budget, our fundraisers are how we raise money to fund our ministry activities and our donations to other causes (i.e. feeding the homeless at Loaves and Fishes). We will probably do 3-4 fundraisers in 2010 but we will need to coordinate them with other Ministries in the church (i.e. the Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry) and with the Finance Committee. We are tentatively planning our first fundraiser in March 2010. At the conclusion of this discussion it was decided that we would donate 50% of our current BoB Ministry account balance ($209.25) to UMCOR for their relief efforts in Haiti.
In addition to the March fundraiser, we discussed several other events that you need to put on your calendars:
(1) we have been asked by the United Methodist Women to assist them with one of their Mission fundraisers - a dinner theatre event on March 19th and 20th. I will send you the details about this request in a separate email.
(2) Band of Brothers will, again this year, cook and serve the homeless at the Loaves and Fishes Ministry in Pensacola - on Sunday, June 27th,
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 6:00 pm at the Soundside Campus. At that meeting we will have a brief business discussion and then we will show the video " Everything is Spiritual" that was scheduled for our January meeting. For those of you who are super-organized, below is a list of tentative meeting dates for the rest of 2010:
March 18 - Fairpoint
April 22 - Soundside
May 20 - Fairpoint
June 17 - Soundside
July 22 - Fairpoint
August 19 - Soundside
Sept. 23 - Fairpoint
Oct. 21 - Soundside
Nov. 18 - Fairpoint
December - No Meeting
As always, we solicit your ideas and suggestions as to how we can improve and better focus the Band of Brothers efforts to make a difference in our community.
If you would like to be deleted from the Band of Brothers mailing list, please contact us at BandofBrothers@gbumc.org. Thanks for your time and attention and have a blessed day !
